An employment review was launched by the Government on 2nd April 2023 to boost the employment prospects of autistic people. The review is supported by Autistica and led by Sir Robert Buckland KC MP.
Right now, fewer than 3 in 10 autistic adults are in work. But many more want to work and have a lot to offer companies. The Buckland Review of Autism Employment will ask businesses, employment organisations, specialist support groups and autistic people to help identify the barriers to securing and retaining work and progressing with their careers.
What the review will cover
The Buckland Review of Autism Employment will consider issues including:
How employers identify and better support autistic staff already in their workforce;
What more could be done to prepare autistic people effectively for beginning or returning to a career;
Working practices or initiatives to reduce stigma and improve the productivity of autistic employees.
What happens next
The Buckland Review of Autism Employment will start next month. We will be working with other charities, autistic people and employers on the review. The recommendations will then be reported in September 2023.
Sounds good Charlie. Sir Robert chaired the All Party Group on Autism from 2011 to 2014.
